Adapting Musicals to the Smallish Stage - Richard Olmsted, Ulises Alcala

Big ideas for small spaces

We’ll discuss the common practice of designing musical theatre for stages that aren’t well equipped for musicals, and with scarce budgets and resources. Two designers in conversation with director Darryl V. Jones talk about some of the projects on which they’ve collaborated, including The Wiz and Cabaret. The focus will be on seeing constraints as a driver for creative interpretation and novel production ideas, rather than irritation and disappointment.
