Stage Management Round Table Discussion

Jamie Tucker, CSU Fullerton Assist Professor of Stage Management and Department Production Stage Manager, hosts a conversation with a panel of four stage managers Randall K. Lum, Brian S Newman, J. Jason Daunter, and Moira Gleason. Please bring your questions as they share their knowledge and experiences from stage managing in American Regional Theatres, National & International Tours , Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Cirque du Soleil and Broadway.

Randall K. Lum has been in stage management for over four decades, and has worked with many regional LORT theatres across the United States. Some companies he has worked for include: American Conservatory Theatre, Center Theatre Group, Arena Stage, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Denver Center Theatre Company, Old Globe Theatre, Pasadena Playhouse, Seattle Repertory Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, South Coast Repertory, Berkeley Repertory, and TheatreWorks where he is currently one of the resident stage managers.

Brian S. Newman is currently the Production Manager and an Assistant Professor at Cal Poly Pomona and has been an AEA Stage Manager for 19 years. Previously, he served as the Production Manager for Indiana Repertory Theatre for nine seasons, was the General Stage Manager for Cirque du Soleil’s production ZAiA in Macau SAR, China for four years, and was a Production Manager for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus for three different tours over the course of four years.

J. Jason Daunter has spent the last fifteen years on the road and on Broadway. Credits include To Kill a Mockingbird starring Jeff Daniels, Meteor Shower starring Amy Schumer, A Doll’s House Part 2 starring Laurie Metcalf, Shuffle Along, Wicked, Glory Days, and Cyrano De Bergerac. He has worked closely with theatre luminaries such as Meryl Streep, Chita Rivera, Aaron Sorkin, Chris Cooper, Laura Benanti, Alan Menken, Stephen Schwartz, Joe Mantello, Jerry Zaks and George C. Wolfe. Jason is the recipient of The Educational Theatre Association’s President & Founders Awards.

Moira Gleason has worked in professional theatre for over 20 years. Seven seasons at Oregon Shakespeare Company working on productions such as The River Bride, Water by the Spoonful and Black Swan Lab. She first worked at the Old Globe Theatre as a sound operator, house manager, as a carpenter working in the shop building sets, and an education coordinator before settling into Stage Management. She has credits as Production Stage Manager at South Coast Repertory, San Diego Repertory, Old Globe, Mo'olelo Performing Arts Company.
